My Journey from Hollywood to Vietnam!

July 24, 2008

Last week David Marmel, President/CEO of Mrs. America and Mrs. World Organization, and I arrived at the LAX airport at midnight for our 1:50 flight to Vietnam. At the ticket counter we were told our visas wouldn’t be ready for twenty-four hours and we had the fly out the following evening. The next day David’s beautiful wife Elaine gave me the Grand Tour of the Chinese and Kodak Theatres, Rodeo Drive, and Beverly Hills. After our delicious dinner at the famous Giovanni’s Italian Restaurant in Malibu we anxiously waited at the airport to find out if we were going on our trip.  Luckily our visas were ready and we headed out for our 15-hour flight to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam!  As soon as we arrived we were greeted by our good friend Kim Hong (Mrs. Vietnam 2005), her staff, media, about a hundred local citizens. They immediately set up a press conference for us at the airport, then gave us a tour of the Cu Chi Tunnels, and then visited a local disabled children’s orphanage.  Kim Hong and the Labour and Social Welfare Committee gave us food, gifts, and candy to bring to the eighty beautiful children and taught us Vietnamese songs to sing to them. The next day we traveled by boat to Vung Tau, the Host City of the Mrs. World Pageant 2009! We were welcomed by the People’s Committee of Province and they gave us the tour of the next Five-Star Hotel Imperial Plaza, the Thuy Van Seaside resort, and the Bach Dinh Museum. We then filmed commercials on the beach while riding wave runners to promote next year’s pageant.  The next day we drove back to Ho Chi Minh to see our friend Colleen, Mrs. Singapore (1st runner-up to Mrs. World 2008), and Dieu Hoa Mrs. Vietnam 2008 (4th runner-up to Mrs. World 2008).  We were invited to the morning television show VTV4  http://www.sucsongmoi.com.vn/.  It was a wonderful opportunity to speak about the Mrs. America/World Organization and my platform Breast Cancer Awareness.  That evening 300 people attended the Contract Signing Ceremony at the Rex Hotel.  Kim Hong generously gave Colleen and I traditional Vietnamese beaded dresses to wear to at the ceremony. The ceremony included a runway fashion show, professional signers and dancers, and an amazing speech from David.  Thank you so much to Kim Hong for our special journey to Vietnam.  Looking forward to encouraging my friends and family to attend next year’s Mrs. World Pageant in November 2009 to experience the warm hospitality, delicious foods, history, and culture.

What an exciting evening to watch the pageant next to my good friend and mentor, Elaine Marmel, the Vice President of the Mrs. America/ Mrs. World Organization.  This evening was filled with amazing entertainment from Professional Ballet, Hip-Hop, and Ballroom Dancers and Singers. All of the contestants looked stunning in their costumes, evening gowns, and swimwear.   Congratulations to Mrs. Ukraine Natalya Shmarennova , Mrs. World 2008! Natalya is a Professional Singer, Violinist, Dancer, and Actress and performs in concert throughout Russia every year.  Natalya, David Marmel The President/CEO of Mrs. World , and I will be traveling to Vietnam next week for the Miss Universe Pageant!  The 1st runner-up was Mrs. Singapore, 2nd runner-up Mrs. Belarus, 3rd runner-up Mrs. Peru, and 4th runner-up Mrs. Vietnam.  The Mrs. America/ Mrs. World Organization has given all of the contestants the extraordinary opportunity to travel the world and use their titles to further promote numerous charities.  I felt so blessed and honored to give my farewell speech and walk during the pageant.  It was a wonderful opportunity to share my experiences about promoting the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation and The National Anthem Project.  I gave a special thank you to my husband Thomas, Mom, Dad, Vic, Grandma Mary, Sandra, Ed, my Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Grandparents, the Hill family, friends, Jaime, Amy, Ali, and Tina, former Queens, sponsors, Maya Palace, David and Elaine Marmel, Diane Ritter, Stacey Kole, and the Mrs. World staff for their tremendous love and support throughout the year.
